Everyone worries. It’s natural. But why make yourself endure a bad feeling when there is a better way? (and there is!)
In this blog post and podcast episode, I share with you how I went from worrying all the time, to feeling secure, guided, and trusting my intuition. How I learned to stop worrying so much, and instead feel calm and safe. For the full impact, have a listen to my related podcast episode here:
However, I have also have outlined the key points for you in this article.
What Worrying Actually Does:
On a manifestation level, worrying is bringing more unwanted things to you because you’re visualizing what you don’t want, playing what you’re afraid of, on the movie screen in your mind
Whatever we play on the movie screen in our mind, is what we are focusing on, and telling the universe, I’m focusing on this, I’m choosing this. Bring me more of this. (Even though we don’t want it).
We never do this intentionally, however we do have a choice. Every time I catch myself in a worry, I ask myself, do I want to invest in this (negative) outcome, or do I want to invest in the outcome that I want?
Every time I catch myself in a worry, I ask myself, do I want to invest in this (negative) outcome, or do I want to invest in the outcome that I want?
It’s as simple as that. However, when you’re in the middle of an anxious spiral, it’s really difficult to stop and think a different thought, to make a different choice. What you can do is distract yourself so that the worry spiral slows down and stops altogether.
Distraction Techniques to Slow Down Your Worries:
- The 5 Senses Technique /Deep breathing/square breathing: all of these help you get out of your head and into your body, also sending a signal to your brain that you are safe, and it can relax.
- Notice nature – find something beautiful to appreciate
- Pick up a book to read for a few minutes – this will get you out of your worrisome thoughts and immersed in the content of the book
- Immerse yourself in something creative, something playful
- Go out for a walk/fresh air/notice nature
- Call a friend and ask how they are doing, focus on them.
- Instead of thinking about the worst case scenario – ask yourself what is the best case scenario here?
- Choose a different thought – when you choose to think about something else, you will forget about your worries. You can’t think about two things at once.
- Go to your happy place in your mind/envision pleasant things
- Gratitude for something unrelated that’s simple and easy to appreciate
(You never actually solve anything with worries. So by stopping it all together, this doesn’t mean your problem won’t get solved, in fact, it speeds up the solution process when you cut out the worrying part)
So, How Do Solutions Come?
They are already known by the higher part of us, by our soul, by our intuition. Our soul already knows the answer we are seeking, and actually knows exactly how to get us there. So, once we stop the noisy chatter of our anxious minds, we can slow down, be still and finally hear the wisdom our soul holds, guiding us to our solution, and the good outcome we have been seeking.
A fundamental understanding to decrease the weight you give to your worries is this…There is a voice of fear and a voice of our intuition. The voice of our intuition is actually the voice of our soul. Our soul is connected to source and the universe, and it is pure love.
The voice of our fear is the voice of the part of us where there’s been an absence of love. (It’s the opposite).
It is what Abraham Hicks says, there is no source of darkness, there is only an absence of light. So, one of the key fundamental concepts that help me stop worrying is understanding that there isn’t a source of evil, there isn’t a source of darkness, of bad things.
The things that are appearing as bad is where I haven’t allowed in love, I haven’t allowed in light, I haven’t allowed in source to show me the way.
These areas where I have the greatest fears are where I have believed my fearful mind instead of tuning in and listening to what my soul has to say about that very topic.
Abraham Hicks teaches that your inner being, which is your soul or your intuition, has an opinion on everything that you’re doing, and cares about everything that you care about.
At any given time, whatever you’re focusing on, there are two opinions at play..the opinion of your mind (rooted in fear), and the opinion of your higher self/intuition (rooted in love and security). The range between these two opinions is what causes all of your emotions. The further your mind’s opinion is from that of your higher self, the worse you will feel. The closer it is, the better you will feel.
In a nutshell, when you listen to your higher self, you receive good feeling thoughts that lead the solution that you were searching for. When you listen to your fears, you feel awful, and you enlarge the problem, usually making it worse.
You can use this emotional guidance system, as Abraham Hicks calls it, to gauge where you are on any topic in your life. If you are in fear about something, it means you’re basically way off base from the truth that your soul knows about this situation. It means you’re not seeing the solution, in fact you’re very far from it in your mind. That’s also why worrying doesn’t amount to anything productive, because it’s only taking you further and further from the solution (that does exist)
Once you try muting your worries and instead listening to your inner guidance, and you get a positive result, you will have your own evidence that this process works, and that worrying never really helped you, only left you feel scared and helpless. You’ll soon find that by not worrying, by leaving room in your mind for peace and positivity, a solution, or the thoughts that led to solution, were able to enter.
Surrender
What happens when we do this is we surrender. We are not surrendering our desire, we are surrendering our struggle. We are ceasing it. We are no longer fighting against things, and instead allowing things to play out. When we do this, we allow the universal source to move things for us in ways we cannot see, plan, or predict. But somehow, someway, they come together for us. Check out my podcast episode, Storms And Solutions, or my blog post, You Are Exactly Where You’re Supposed To Be for more detail on this process.
Create A Faith List
Look at past evidence of times when you were worried, but you trusted your soul and then it worked out. Create a list of situations that worked out for you, even when you didn’t know how they would.
Every time you are in a place where you need more faith, you’ll have access to this list where you can see all of the things that once worried you, but were somehow, someway, magically, miraculously resolved. This list is so powerful. I use and rely on this list, to pull me out of spirals and instead put me onto the path of hope, faith, and peace. Simply knowing that I’ve been in a big worry before, and been OK afterward, is all the proof I need to discredit and dismantle my current fear and worry, to realize, everything is not as it seems, and things will in fact be OK, and currently are being worked out, even though my physical senses do not yet now why or how.
I hope this post helps you lovely, sending you my love and light,
