Hello lovelies. Upon some inner reflection, I came to realize that my pretty home office, is more then just a workspace for me. TBH, I use it way more for my self care, then I actually do to work from! Which made me realize that it’s not about the desk, computer or workspace that makes this place magical to me. It’s the aura of the room, the peaceful harmony I’ve created in this space, the inspired feeling that ensues after entering into this serene realm. It’s a special place for me to sit with myself, to meditate, to journal, to read, to stretch, to relax, to breathe, and to just be.
It got me thinking that everyone, whether they work from home or not (and I am currently not working from home), deserves a place they can call their own, where they immediately feel at ease and they can spend some time nurturing themselves.
I know traditionally people connotate self care with the spa, or with getting a facial or beauty treatment.
That is one facet of self care, and is beneficial in it’s own right. However, the self care I am making reference to here is quite different. It is all about slowing down and being still while you take time to listen to yourself, to feel and hear your emotions, to bring your body into your awareness, to write down your thoughts, and to nurture your inner self. True self care is about facing yourself, working with what is currently going on for you, and parenting yourself through it.
“True self care is not just spa treatments or bubble baths. True self care is about facing yourself, working with what is currently going on for you, and parenting yourself through it.”
Self care at the spa is more of a treat, and usually not done frequently. True self care is something you can do on a regular basis. It’s readily accessible and its typically free.
The benefit of having a particular spot in your home where you spend time nurturing yourself, is that your body remembers the good feelings you create there when you enter this space again.
Once you’ve established your spot, and have had a few breakthrough moments there, every time you come back to it, your body will remember the good feelings, and you will instantly shift toward a lighter, more loving state.
Your body will remember to feel good whenever you come back to this spot.
This has happened for me, so I can vouch for it. I can quite possibly wake up in the grumpiest mood, dragging my feet down the stairs as I head to my kitchen to make coffee. However as soon as I set my coffee down, turn on my relaxing music, and plant myself on my shag carpet, I feel it. I feel a sense of ease, peacefulness, and serenity. My body knows that this is my time, that I will find comfort here, and that I will renew and nurture myself while I’m here.
For this reason, I highly recommend designating a particular spot in your home for your self care or me-time.

It does not need to be an entire room. All you really need is a small corner or chair somewhere in your home. A few examples of some possible self care spots are:
- a corner in your bedroom,
- your favorite armchair in your living room,
- a window bench anywhere in your home,
- a patio chair on your deck,
- a spot on your floor at the foot of your bed.
Wherever you decide for it to be, make it your own. Make it place that whenever you see it, you immediately feel a sense of calmness and warmth.
You can
- add something comfortable such as a blanket or a pillow
- add something inspirational, maybe quotes or books,
- have it in a well lit spot, perhaps by a window so you get some natural light flowing in.
If I didn’t have my entire office to work with, I would likely use a corner of my bedroom. I would put a small bookshelf there, where I would keep my self help books, my quote card decks, and perhaps an inspirational photo or printed quote in a frame. I would put a throw pillow and blanket on the ground, and ta-da, that would be it!
To illustrate this, I borrowed some items from around my home, and from within this office (you may recognize some from here!).
As you can see, the items I added to my self care spot are:
- a bookshelf
- my self help books
- a small area rug
- a throw blanket
- 2 throw pillows
- my inspirational quote card decks
- my journal
If you like to do yoga, you could add a yoga mat. If you like to do crosswords to unwind, put your crossword book there. Whatever gets you to relax, unwind, and most importantly, out of your head and in tune with your soul, put it in your self care spot.
By having a designated place to sit down and be with yourself, your life will dramatically change. You will begin to rely on yourself to get through the struggles in your life. You will go from feeling overwhelmed and alone, to feeling calm and empowered. Being able to be there for yourself is a significant step forward in your self love journey. Having a specific spot to do this will make it easier and more routine for you to spend this time nurturing yourself.
Trusting your own judgement, and listening to your own inner voice will do wonders for your emotional well being and self confidence. This is just one of the many steps you can take to better yourself and your life. By creating a self care spot, you are making your self care more accessible for yourself, and thus making it more likely to happen. You may even begin to feel drawn to it when you walk by through out the day. Be proud of yourself for all the energy you’re investing in yourself. It’s so worth it.
As always, I’d love to hear from you lovely. Leave me your questions and comments below.
