I’m going to let you in on my secret to styling any room in the quickest way possible. I have to do this all the time when I am staging a home. The same rule applies when I’m decorating a living room, a bedroom, or even a home office.
You want to know what it is?
OK, here it is…
To style any room in your home, start with the artwork first.
Figure out how many pieces of art you need, and then go shopping for that before you buy anything else.
Why?
Because your artwork is the anchor that ties your whole design scheme together.
If you ignore my advice and pick your pillows and accents first, you will probably have a tough time finding an art piece that compliments what you have chosen already. Or you might find that your design is kind of boring. One of the perks in choosing your artwork first is that you can see how multiple colours work together. And from there, you’ve got your accent colour and primary colours of your design; your complete colour scheme! (Which is awesome by the way!) All without having to figure out how many colours you want to incorporate, or stressing over if they will look good together.
Once you figure out which artwork you like, then it’s so easy to find the right cushions, throw, vases, bowls, books, and etc.
If the artwork I select has multiple colours, i.e. pink, black, silver and white..I make sure I touch on all of those colours in the rest of the accent pieces.
Here is a sample of how I put together a room:

The artwork is what launches my design for me. If I choose the other pieces first, but can’t find an art piece to tie it all together, the whole design just doesn’t flow. Something looks off, or doesn’t feel right. And usually I end up starting all over again! And really when you are spending your hard-earned cash (or credit!), you want to make sure you are spending it wisely. What’s the point in spending on the other decor if it doesn’t make your whole room look wow? There is no point. Really.
Lots of people feel like decor is a too expensive, or not necessary, so they don’t want to splurge on it. But when you have a budget in mind, and you stick to that budget, its worth it. So don’t ruin that by not picking your artwork first. Make your purchases make sense. Buy the art first, the rest will follow and your room will look phenomenal!
