Don’t you love it when you check into a swanky hotel and you get that feeling. Like you have stepped into the pit of luxury? And then before your little getaway is over, it hits you, that you don’t ever, ever, want to leave. This hotel room is just too perfect. I wish I could have this at home!
Well guess what? You can!
My dream has always been to create a bedroom that has all the bells and whistles of a swanky hotel room. So it looks and feels luxurious, comfortable, and has everything I need inside of it if I want to retreat away from the rest of the world for a day, or three!
After studying many, many, hotels rooms, I compiled a list of what all awesome hotel rooms have in common.. and just to be sure I gave you all  accurate information, I checked into the swankiest hotel I could find to write-up this post.
You’re welcome 🙂
So here is my swanky list:
First things first, hotel rooms have awesome furniture layouts. They are the epitome of ‘function – meets – style’. You always have your various functional zones: your sleeping zone, your sitting zone, your storage zone, your working zone, etc. Every function has it’s own area. That is key to what makes hotel rooms so functional and livable.
I love how hotel rooms have additional seating, i.e. the two armchairs and side table. It just makes me feel like the room is so cozy and I could curl up on that chair and chill there all day with a good book. I also love how this additional seating doubles as a place to throw your clothes/shopping bags/handbag, after a long day out, and you just want to kick off your heels and relax a little before putting your stuff away.
Another thing swanky hotels have that you should incorporate into your dream bedroom is gloriously comfy bedding! The really exceptional  hotels have the fluffiest and most comfiest duvets with heavenly pillows and shams that make you feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud. Makes you want to sleep for days.
I also LOVE how swanky hotels have a mini bar and a coffee area. I put a single serve coffee machine in my bedroom, and I’m getting a mini fridge to boot. I love having my coffee in the sanctity of my own bedroom, where I can just savour every sip and take in the morning. Maybe ill add a champagne/ice bucket to complete the bar feel…you know, for research.
Another way to make your bedroom feel like a swanky hotel room is to venture on into your ensuite (if you have one), and make it a very spa like bathroom. The easiest way to do this is to declutter your countertops, and to put out a big stack of fluffy white towels. This just screams HOTEL!
Swanky hotels always have some kind of abstract artwork above the bed or on the neighbouring wall. Choose something in your preferred colour scheme that ties in with your accents and bedding.
The last thing that swanky hotels always have is in the details. They always have an alarm clock/ipod dock, a lamp or two on the nightstands, a phone, and some reading material. I would add a small flower accent to pretty-it-up a notch.
So, to wrap up, if you want to make your bedroom feel like a swanky hotel room, you need: your furniture placed according to zones (sleeping, working, dressing, drinking, etc.); additional seating; seriously fluffy bedding; a spa-like bathroom with white towels galore; at least one statement art piece; a mini bar and/or coffee area; and some functional accents like lamps and an iPod dock.
Once you transform your bedroom into a “hotel room”; I promise you, you will never want to leave! 🙂
