You are likely reading this post because you want to make your living room/bedroom/bathroom/other space look phenomenal. You have dreamed of decorating this space and making it into something spectacular. You may have even bought a few decor pieces and gotten started, but your space still doesn’t look like those homes on HGTV or Candice Tells All. Tell me about it! It can be really frustrating when you have a vision in mind, but you are having trouble achieving it.
Well you have come to the right place! I am going to give you a step by step guide on how to decorate your home, so that it looks like its been styled by a pro!
The first place you need to start is to…..
CREATE A FEATURE WALL
The wall in the room that is first noticed, or looked at the most in that room. You need to play up this wall , more so than the other walls in this room.
So how do you make this wall stand out?
Try one or more of these suggestions:
- Wallpaper
My favourite option for a feature wall. Its stylish, it looks professional, and it’s fun to choose! My advice; get a professional to install it, so you don’t end up with a pattern that doesn’t line up or air bubbles under the paper.
2. Mirror(s)
This is another easy, stylish option to glam up any room in your home. Make sure you use a level and studfinder before installing.
found on pinterest.com
3. Accent paint colour
An easy and affordable option, and if you pick the wrong colour, or get tired of it, its easy to change it again.
4. Artwork
The artwork you choose should tie in with the rest of your decor and colour scheme. So don’t settle for any old piece. Select it based on the colour scheme you want to end up with, and the overall feeling you want to achieve.
5. Shelving with décor accents and books
Built-in’s can be costly, but are worth it if you are staying in your home for years to come. They never really go out of style, and provide you with a lot of storage space too!
6. Window treatment
These can be custom ordered by a designer, or a drapery vendor. Or you can find some at your local decor shop at a fraction of the cost.
7. Stonework or tiling
Available at your local tile shop or stone vendor.
8. Tufted panels
These can be custom ordered from any upholstery place. You get to select your fabric and spacing of tufts.
Which one are you willing to try? My suggestion is try the one you most comfortable with and obviously fits within your budget. Draw out a rough sketch of your feature wall if you are unsure of what it will look like with the rest of your furniture and decor pieces. Leave your questions and comments below!
